Dr. James Reed, a Longboat Key physician, contributed significantly to a successful hurricane relief effort aimed at helping those in North Port, Florida, who were struggling after Hurricane Ian. Together with Dr. Michael O’Neil and Susan Phillips, the trio placed a PODS storage unit in the Bay Isles Publix parking lot, which was filled with essential supplies in less than two days.

Dr. Reed supported the idea proposed by Dr. O’Neil and played a crucial role in financing the project. The doctors shared the cost, while Susan Phillips coordinated with Janet Carrillo, Social Services Manager for the city of North Port, and found volunteers to help with the effort. The community response was overwhelming, with Longboat Key residents stepping up to donate much-needed items.

Thanks to the combined efforts of Dr. Reed, Dr. O’Neil, and Susan Phillips, the relief effort collected nearly 10,000 pounds of supplies and more than $5,000 in gift cards. The success of the initiative highlights the generosity and dedication of the Longboat Key community.
